Emergency Plumbing in Beaumont and Southeast Texas
We are open Monday through Sunday, 24 hours. That is not a marketing line about answering the phone, it is our actual hours. Plumbing emergencies in Southeast Texas do not distribute themselves across business hours. A main line backs up at midnight. A supply line lets go on a Sunday. A freeze arrives on a holiday weekend and half of Jefferson County and Orange County needs a plumber at the same time. When it is genuinely an emergency, the useful thing to know is what to do in the first two minutes, before anyone arrives. That is most of what this page is.
How Emergency Plumbing Works
We are open Monday through Sunday, 24 hours. That is not a marketing line about answering the phone, it is our actual hours. Plumbing emergencies in Southeast Texas do not distribute themselves across business hours. A main line backs up at midnight. A supply line lets go on a Sunday. A freeze arrives on a holiday weekend and half of Jefferson County and Orange County needs a plumber at the same time. When it is genuinely an emergency, the useful thing to know is what to do in the first two minutes, before anyone arrives. That is most of what this page is.
The First Two Minutes
For anything spraying, pouring or flooding, get the water off. The main shutoff for the house is usually where the service enters, at the front near the meter, or in a garage or utility area. Find it now, while nothing is wrong. Standing in an inch of water is a bad time to learn where the valve is and that it is painted shut. Individual fixtures have their own stops under the sink or behind the toilet, and for a single fixture that is faster than shutting the whole house. For a water heater, shut the cold inlet at the top of the unit and, on gas, turn the gas control off. If water is anywhere near electrical, kill power to that area at the panel before you go into the room. If you smell gas, do not troubleshoot it. Leave, take everyone with you, do not touch switches or phones inside, and call the gas utility from outside. Then call us. For a sewage backup, stop using water entirely. Every flush and every load of laundry adds to what is already coming up.
What Counts as an Emergency
Some things genuinely cannot wait. A burst or actively leaking supply line, because it does not stop and the damage compounds by the hour. Sewage backing up into the house, which is a health problem before it is a plumbing problem. No water at all, particularly with someone in the house who needs it. A gas smell, which is a call to the utility first and to us second. A water heater leaking heavily, given how much a tank holds. Water near electrical equipment. Other things feel urgent and are not, and we would rather tell you that than charge you for the middle of the night. One slow drain, a dripping faucet, or a running toilet can wait for morning without anything getting worse. Sometimes the right answer on the phone is which valve to close and what time we can be there tomorrow.
The Emergencies This Region Produces
Southeast Texas has its own catalogue. Freeze events. Uri in 2021 was the extreme case, and it broke pipe across the Golden Triangle at a scale nobody had planned for. But hard freezes happen here regularly, and the local building stock is not built for them. Exposed lines in garages, in unconditioned utility rooms, in attics and on exterior walls are the ones that go. Flooding. Harvey put more than sixty inches on the Port Arthur area in 2017 and Imelda came back through in 2019. Flooding overwhelms sewer systems, forces sewage back into buildings, submerges water heaters and puts debris into lines that stays there. Soil movement. Long dry stretches followed by heavy rain move Gulf Coast clay, and a slab leak or a broken sewer line can present suddenly on a property that had been fine for years. The common thread is that these events hit a lot of properties at once. During a regional event everyone is busy, and the households that fare best are the ones that knew where their shutoff was.
What Reduces the Odds
Not everything is preventable and a fair amount is. Know where the main shutoff is and confirm it actually turns. Valves seize from decades of never being used, and finding that out during an emergency is the worst possible time. Insulate exposed supply lines, particularly in the garage, in unconditioned spaces and against exterior walls. Uri made the cost of skipping this very clear. Take recurring problems seriously. A drain that backs up on a schedule, a water heater making noise, pressure that has been slipping. Those are warnings, and warnings are cheaper than emergencies. If a property has flood history, plan around it. Raising a water heater and knowing what happens to your sewer line during a regional event are decisions best made on a dry day. And know who you are going to call before you need to call them.
