Whole-Home Repiping in Beaumont and Southeast Texas

Repiping means replacing the water supply lines throughout a house, not patching one section. If you are searching for a repipe or wondering about repiping your home, the usual trigger is a plumbing system that has started failing in more than one place at once. This is common in the Golden Triangle. A lot of our housing stock is older, and the pipe inside the walls has been working for fifty or sixty years. When it is done, one repair after another stops being a plan. A whole-home repipe replaces the system so it can stop being a source of surprises.

Why Older Southeast Texas Homes Need It

Houses from the Spindletop era through the 1950s were commonly plumbed in galvanized steel. It rusts from the inside, and the opening narrows over the years until pressure sags and the water runs brown. Pinhole leaks follow. Because the whole system is the same age and has had the same exposure, a pinhole in one run is a preview of the others. Hard water scale speeds it up, and it is a constant around the Neches and across Jefferson County and Orange County. Winter Storm Uri added a second wave. Pipes in attics and exterior walls froze, split, and were patched quickly. Some of those patches are holding. Some of the pipes that were stressed but did not burst are failing now, months and years later.

Repiping Versus Water Line Repair

These are different jobs. Water line repair fixes one failed line, such as a broken yard line or a burst section. Repiping replaces the system. If one section failed because of a freeze, a shovel, or a bad fitting, repair is the right call. If the cause is age and corrosion throughout the house, repairing the failure just moves you to the next one. We will tell you which situation you are in rather than selling the bigger job by default.

PEX or Copper

Both are good materials and both are in common use. Neither is a trick. PEX is flexible plastic tubing. It runs in long continuous lengths with fewer joints, bends around corners, and takes less opening of walls to install. It tolerates a limited freeze better than rigid pipe. It does not like long exposure to sunlight, and it should not be installed where it will see UV. Copper is rigid metal with a long track record. It resists UV and is not permeable, and it is what many people picture as a premium plumbing system. It takes more labor to install because every turn is a joint, and in some water conditions it can pit over time. Our job is to explain the tradeoffs for your house and your water, and then do what you pick.

How a Repipe Goes

Planning comes first. We walk the house, find every fixture and appliance supply, and decide where new lines will run. On slab homes, which is most of them here, the old lines under the concrete are not dug up. New lines usually go through the attic and drop to each fixture, and the old lines are capped. Access is the part everyone worries about. We keep wall openings small and plan them ahead rather than opening up as we go. Some drywall will be cut. We will talk through what that looks like in your house before we start, and what is and is not part of our scope. Water is off for part of the day while the system is changed over, not for the whole job. We plan around when you need water. After the new lines are in, the system is pressure checked before anything is closed up.

Signs the System Is Done

Pressure that has fallen across the whole house. Discolored water. Hot water weaker than cold. Leaks that come back, in different places. Pipe in the attic or garage that is visibly corroded. Any one of those is worth a conversation. Several together usually means the question is when, not whether.

Whole-Home Repiping FAQ

What does repiping a house involve?
Replacing the supply lines to every fixture and appliance. Usually new lines run through the attic and drop into walls to each connection, with small openings in the drywall. The water is shut off for a part of the day during the changeover.
How much does repiping cost?
It depends on the size of the house, the layout, the material, and how hard the walls and attic are to reach. We give free estimates after we see the house, and we can lay out the choices.
Is repiping worth it?
If your plumbing has several failures, falling pressure, or discolored water from old galvanized pipe, it usually is, because repairs only reset the clock on one section. If you have one isolated leak in an otherwise sound system, probably not.
PEX or copper for a repipe?
Both work well. PEX is faster to install and flexes, copper is rigid and handles sunlight. The better choice depends on the house and the water, and we will explain it either way.
Can Uri damage show up years later?
Yes. Pipe that froze and was stressed but did not burst can fail long afterward. If the house has had repeated leaks since the 2021 freeze, a repipe is worth discussing.
