Our Services in Vidor, TX

Vidor sits in Orange County just east of Beaumont along Interstate 10, close enough to the Golden Triangle that it functions as part of the same daily orbit and far enough that it has its own character. It has also flooded, badly and more than once. Harvey put water through a large share of this city in 2017 and Imelda came back through in 2019. That history is a plumbing history as much as anything else. We cover Vidor and the surrounding Orange County communities, open Monday through Sunday, 24 hours.

What Harvey and Imelda Left in the Ground

Flood damage to plumbing does not end when the water goes down. Sewer systems that were overwhelmed pushed sewage back into buildings through the lowest fixtures, which is why so many tubs and shower pans in this city have seen it. That is a capacity problem during the event, and it leaves a residue problem afterward. Silt and debris entered lines and settled. They do not flush out with normal use. A line that backs up repeatedly years later is frequently still carrying material that arrived with the flood water. Gas water heaters that were submerged are finished. The controls and burner assembly are not serviceable after immersion, and a unit that lights afterward is not evidence that it is safe. We still find units in service that went under. And extended saturation moves ground. Sewer lines and slabs that had been stable for decades shifted while the soil was waterlogged, and some of those failures did not present for years.

Slab Homes on Ground That Has Been Soaked

Vidor is slab-on-grade over expansive Gulf Coast clay, and repeated saturation has been rough on that arrangement. The normal cycle is bad enough. Clay swells with moisture, shrinks in dry stretches, and the slab rides it. Lines cast underneath abrade and crack. Repeated deep saturation adds a harder version. Ground that stays wet for weeks moves further and settles differently when it dries, and slabs that had found their equilibrium get moved off it. So slab leaks and underslab drain breaks are common work here, and a fair number of them trace back to a specific event rather than to gradual wear. We locate before we open anything. On a house that has already been through flood repair, the last thing anyone needs is exploratory demolition.

Rebuilt Houses and Mixed Plumbing

One thing that makes Vidor distinctive is how much of its housing has been repaired or partly rebuilt. That produces properties with mixed plumbing. Newer work in the sections that were redone, original material everywhere else. Sometimes the transitions were done well and sometimes they were done fast, in the middle of a rebuild, by whoever was available. Uri complicated it further in 2021, splitting supply lines in garages and exterior walls across Orange County, including in sections that had only recently been rebuilt. It is worth knowing what you have. A house where the bathrooms were redone after Harvey but the supply lines to them were not is going to behave oddly, and the symptoms get blamed on the new fixtures. When we are called out to a rebuilt property we would rather understand what was replaced and when than assume the whole system is one age.

Vidor FAQ

My water heater went under during a flood but it still works. Is it safe?
No. A gas water heater that has been submerged has to be replaced. The gas control valve and burner assembly cannot be certified after immersion, and the fact that it still lights does not change that. This is not a judgment call and we will not service one back into use.
Why does my sewer line still back up years after the flood?
Silt and debris that entered during flooding settle in the line and stay there. Normal use does not flush them out. The other possibility is that extended saturation moved the line and left you with a belly or a separated joint. Those look the same from inside the house, so a camera inspection is what tells them apart.
How quickly can you get to Vidor?
Vidor is about nine miles out from Beaumont, straight along Interstate 10, which makes it one of the closer cities we serve. We are open Monday through Sunday, 24 hours.
My house was rebuilt after Harvey. What should I watch for?
Mixed plumbing is the thing worth knowing about. Rebuilt sections often have new work connected to original lines, and that transition is where odd symptoms come from. New fixtures fed by old pipe underperform, and the fixtures get blamed. It is worth establishing what was actually replaced.
Do you handle emergencies overnight here?
Yes. We are open Monday through Sunday, 24 hours. Sewage backups and burst supply lines are the two that come in overnight most often, and in a city with this flood history, neither is something to leave until morning.
