Our Services in Buna, TX

Buna sits in Jasper County about twenty seven miles north of us, in timber country between the Neches River and the Big Thicket. It is a rural community on larger lots, with heavy pine cover and a good share of property on wells and septic. We are open Monday through Sunday, 24 hours.

Pines and Sewer Lines

The tree cover here is the defining sewer condition, and it is heavier than almost anywhere else we work. Pine and hardwood root systems are extensive and persistent. They take the easiest water available, and a sewer joint that has separated even slightly is easier than the surrounding soil. Older clay tile and cast iron runs have a joint every few feet. The result is a line that backs up, gets cleared, and backs up again on a similar interval, because clearing removes the mass without closing the opening that admitted it. The high water table through this part of Southeast Texas means roots have moisture available everywhere and still prefer an open joint. What ends the cycle is looking. A camera run shows whether one identifiable defect is responsible, which is repairable and permanent, or whether an aging run is failing at several joints, which is a bigger decision. Either answer is better than clearing the same line a fourth time.

Rural Systems and Long Runs

Most property around Buna is outside city services, on private wells, septic systems, or both, and that changes what a symptom means. On septic, a slow drain may be the drain line, the tank or the field. Those are genuinely different problems, and clearing a line that is backing up because the field has failed does nothing. On a well, a pressure complaint may be the pump or the pressure tank rather than the plumbing. Larger lots also mean the run between the house and wherever the line terminates is longer than it would be in town. More pipe, more joints, more candidates for a belly or a separation, and more ground to cover when locating a fault. A camera with a locator is what turns a long buried line into a marked spot on the surface.

Freeze Exposure in the Country

Uri hit rural property in this area harder than town property in 2021, and the reasons were structural rather than luck. There is more exposed pipe out here. Well houses, pump houses, pressure tanks, lines running under raised structures and through unconditioned outbuildings. None of that has the protection an interior wall provides. Power outages also lasted longer outside town, and freeze protection that depends on electricity is no use without it. And when everyone between here and the Gulf Coast needs a plumber the same week, the properties furthest out wait longest. Flooding reaches the low ground along the creek bottoms here too. Harvey and Imelda both put water into parts of this area, and a submerged gas water heater is a replacement rather than a repair regardless of how rural the property is. Insulating exposed lines, including at a well head, is the cheapest useful preparation available.

Buna FAQ

Do you come out to Buna?
Yes, it is about twenty seven miles from Beaumont, north through the timber. We are open Monday through Sunday, 24 hours.
Roots keep getting into my sewer line. Is there a permanent fix?
Sometimes. If a camera shows roots entering at one identifiable defect, repairing that defect solves it. If they are entering at several joints along an old clay or cast iron run, the choice is between replacing the line and clearing it on an interval, and both are reasonable. You should get to choose with the footage in front of you.
My place is on well and septic. Can you help?
We work the plumbing, and telling us about the well and septic before we drive out changes the questions we ask. A drain problem on septic may be the tank or the field, and a pressure problem on a well may be the pump.
What should I do before a hard freeze?
Insulate every exposed line you have, including at the well head and in any unconditioned outbuilding, and confirm your main shutoff actually turns. Rural property has more exposed pipe, longer outages and longer waits for help. Uri demonstrated all three at once in 2021.
